The first seed in the Indian subcontinent, it is named after the goddess of fertility, cotton, but also the Indian word for cotton.

Its popularity in India has prompted farmers to take the new crop to the next level, producing billions of seeds.

With its high yields, its low cost and its low risk of soil erosion, cotton is a great option for farmers.

But with the recent introduction of genetically modified (GM) seeds, the number of cotton seedlings is rising.

The new breed is called ‘Cotton India’.
